Are you looking for a fun, immersive way to learn more about natural perfumery and create your own signature scent with friends? Try our foundational perfume workshop! You will leave with your very own bespoke fine fragrance.

What You'll Learn

Embark on a sensory journey into the art and science of natural perfumery. In this foundational workshop, you'll explore the rich evolution of natural perfumery through history while discovering our extensive library of natural scents. Learn to navigate the complex world of olfactory families and note classifications, understanding how different extraction methods shape and influence a scent's character. Delve into the architecture of fragrance as you master the interplay of top, middle, and base notes in perfume composition. Journey across civilizations to understand the cultural significance of scent, while exploring the fascinating science of olfaction and sensory perception. Discover how individual skin chemistry influences fragrance development and learn about the mysterious quality of sillage - the scented trail a perfume leaves in its wake. Throughout the workshop, you'll experience guided sampling sessions featuring signature natural ingredients from our carefully curated library, bringing theory to life through direct sensory experience. By the end of the class, you'll apply your newfound knowledge to create your own signature fragrance, taking home a 15ml bottle of your unique botanical perfume.

AGE LEVEL

Thirteen and up are welcome. We invite children 6+ to register for our family friendly scent exploration workshop.

SKILL LEVEL

Beginners are welcome. No previous experience is required. Comprehensive instruction will be given.

CLASS DURATION

This two hour introductory class includes an introduction, instruction, guided sampling and guided formulation.

PROJECT

A 15ml bespoke fragrance using your choice of base - oil or perfumers alcohol. You'll have access to our full scent library.

Your registration fee includes:

An introduction to natural perfumery, an overview and sampling of our most popular botanical scents (with access to our full library of 130+ aromatics) and all of the raw materials and supplies needed to create your one-of-a-kind 15ml signature fragrance. Light refreshments (water and house red wine for afternoon and evening workshops) will be served.

Our scent library houses an extensive collection of therapeutic grade essential oils, absolutes, concretes, resins, and isolates - some exotic and very rare - and all from plants. Our ingredients are sourced from more than 40 countries and span all major olfactory families - vegan "leathers" and "musks", exquisite and rare woods, exotic flowers, earthy root extractions, juicy tree fruit, ripe berries, invigorating citrus, verdant grasses, balsamic resins, decadent gourmands, enlivening spices and more. We have one of the most extensive libraries of natural perfume ingredients in the world.

Our Greenpoint storefront is location in the historic neighborhood of Greenpoint, Brooklyn along the East River waterfront. Our studio is housed in a 100-year old converted rope factory with original architectural detailing, in good company among other small artisan studios - a great place to explore!

Our Industry City location is located in a 35 acre retail complex on the waterfront in Sunset Park (also known as the "Design District" of Brooklyn). Come visit us in the Maker's Guild among galleries and one-of-a-kind boutiques, grab a bite in Japan village or one of the other 40 global food vendors, and indulge in one of the many tasting rooms, breweries, and distilleries on site!

Greenpoint - there are many amazing businesses in our very same historic building. Check out Anima Mundi right around the corner for plant medicines and herbal elixirs, have a beer and throw an ax at Bury the Hatchet, build your own bouquet with Maria at the flower shop next door, or make some pottery at Wilcoxson Ceramics. Our two favorite slices are a stone’s throw away - grab the best New York slice from Paulie G’s Pizza and then walk on over to Ovenly for the most delicious chocolate-y slice of Brooklyn Blackout Cake. Karzcma on Manhattan Avenue offers delicious traditional Polish fare, best topped off with dessert from Peter Pan Donut & Pastry shop who have been serving the neighborhood for over 60 years!

Greenpoint - the closest subway stop is the Greenpoint Avenue G station. Another option is the NYC ferry - take the East River route to the Greenpoint stop.
